Whether you’re training for a triathlon, preparing...

Whether you’re training for a triathlon, preparing to cycle through Europe or play basketball in a local league, you always want to improve your performance. There is so much athletic gear in the marketplace that promises to take your athletic abilities to the next level, it can be difficult to wade through all the claims and find what really works. However, many athletes, both professional and recreational, all confirm that once you’ve found the perfect shoes for your favorite sport, the next important step is to get some great compression sleeves or socks.

For starters, compression sleeves and socks will keep your calves cool during a long run, bicycle ride or that soccer game that keeps heading into overtime. Even in the hot summer sun, your legs will feel surprisingly cool and more comfortable than if you weren’t wearing them at all.

The good news is, compression products aren’t only about increasing your comfort during your favorite physical activity. In fact, by promoting increased blood flow in your legs, more oxygen flows to your muscles, which results in a noticeable improvement in your overall performance. You’ll see the difference today, tomorrow and for the long haul because your muscles will recover faster so you can train again with less pain—and we all know that less recovery time is golden in the world of sports and exercise.

The graduated compression you’ll find in Thirty 48’s compression products also bolsters your stamina and endurance during those long training sessions, which translates to improved performance in competitive events. In addition, compression sleeves and socks alter muscle force and efficiency, so you’ll be able to move faster and with more agility, while experiencing an increase in power.

If you’ve been wondering why you can’t watch an NBA, NFL or MBL game without seeing compression products on many of the players, try your own pair and you’ll understand why. There’s a reason you’ll see these innovative products every time you hit the gym or go for a run on the track, and you’ll want to enjoy the benefits too.

Many athletes and marathon runners swear by compression socks and have been wearing them for more than a decade. They’re starting to hit the mainstream, and many exercisers are wondering why they’re so popular. Since they’ve become more stylish and easier to come across, it makes sense that more and more people are thinking about adopting the look.

If you’re wondering why you should rock compression socks, read on for 3 great reasons why.

  • Protection. Do you like to hit outdoor trails or hike regularly? Compression socks and sleeves protect your legs from those nasty scratches and abrasions that can happen in the great outdoors. On those cold winter days, they can also help keep your legs and feet warm. Plus, they add a buffer for more serious threats like poison ivy and can keep dirt and mud off of your legs and feet.

  • Recovery. Compression technology has been shown to boost blood circulation, which will help reduce swelling, reduce toxins and decrease the buildup of lactic acid. These factors ultimately result in faster muscle recovery and may help with injury prevention. In addition, many runners and other athletes claim that compression socks warm up their muscles faster and that they experience less cramping when wearing them.

  • Performance. Runners really started taking notice of compression socks back in 2003 when Paula Radcliffe set a women’s marathon world record of 2:15:25 wearing them. Since then, much research has been performed with runners and cyclists that showed they were able to run longer than those not wearing compression socks or sleeves. Some experienced increases in both their aerobic and anaerobic threshold, while other athletes experienced boosted performance when jumping. The enhanced athletic performance is most likely due to the fact that compression socks prevent muscle oscillation, minimize muscle fatigue and promote greater efficiency.

Going into Sunday's match the US Men's National Soccer Team and its fans would have taken a tie any day against Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal. The Group stages of the World Cup are all about calculated strategy to survive and move on.

It has been an amazing start to a World Cup appearance that had very low expectations for the US team. The team's head coach Jurgen Klinsmann made a controversial decision to cut arguably the best soccer player in US history Landon Donovan from the Brazil-bound roster. Nonetheless, the team is composed of world-class veterans Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, and the ageless DeMarcus Beasley. There are many new faces to the roster. Some have already made a huge impact in the World Cup a la John Brooks who smashed in a go-ahead header to give the US the lead and win in the 86th minute of the match against Ghana.

In just mere moments into the game against Portugal, the US faced a 1 goal deficit when a defensive mistake gave Portugal's Nani an easy shot at goal. Poor defense quickly turned around and the US mounted an offensive attack, increased forward pressure, and many more shots on goal than their previous match.

Then came an incredible comeback. Jermaine Jones willed in a shot from long range, stunning Portugal's goaltender for the equalizer. 6 minutes later, the fresh legs of substitute DeAndre Yedlin sparked an opportunity for US captain Dempsey to chest in the tie breaking goal and what appeared to be the game winner.

The game was all but in the US hands as time winded down. With approximately 30 seconds left in the match, Ronaldo who was silenced all match, lifted a signature cross to the waiting Portugal striker Silvestre Varela who headed in a goal that sucked the wind out of US fans.

The match ended in a tie. After all, a tie was what the US fans wanted. But, not this way.

After a game like that, they deserved the win. There was no other option but to win. A win would have guaranteed that the US team would move on. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. Although the US team is very much alive, the tie felt like a loss.

In the words of US goalkeeper Tim Howard, "The game is cruel."
