A few weeks ago, Thirty 48 contacted The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans to ask if we’d like to review their socks.  As a runner and triathlete, I’m always game for checking out new gear.  Thirty 48, The Sock Geeks, sent me two pair of socks – a pair of the Ru Running Series and a pair of the Cy Cycle Series socks.  Both styles have similar features (arch support, right/left specific fit, curled tab on the back to keep them in place, etc) but are also sport-specific.

Here’s a bit of info on the Ru Running Series socks provided by Thirty 48:

  • Right and Left foot specific for a better fit and blister prevention
  • CatalystAF ™: Design which allows increased airflow
  • COOLMAX ® fabric to move moisture away from the feet, keeping them dry

My impressions:

  • These socks are very soft and cushy, more so than I’m used to.
  • I think they run a little big, so if you are near the bottom of the size range, you might want to go down a size.  I also prefer my socks to fit really tight so if you don’t mind them a little looser, no worries.
  • Because they are a little thicker, my feet got warm when I was running on the treadmill but I think they would’ve been great for our cold winter outside.  Even though my feet were warm, the socks wicked sweat away.
  • No blisters!

This was my first pair of cycle-specific socks.  Here are a few of the features:

  • Right & Left foot specific for a better fit and blister prevention
  • CatalystAF ™: Design which allows increased airflow
  • Specialized fabric blend to wick moisture away from the feet, keeping them dry

My impressions:

  • I really liked these socks.  These seem to fit smaller than the running socks and the medium fit me well.  They were snug and sleek in my cycle shoes.
  • I’m not used to wearing socks which cover my ankles but these were fine. They are thin enough that I really didn’t notice they were there.
  • Since it’s winter where I live and I don’t ride my road bike on ice, I tried these socks out on my trainer in the basement.  My feet stayed cool and comfortable.  I could see wearing these socks for a triathlon and running in them off the bike.

These socks from Thirty 48 are definitely a winner.  I’ve always been a fan of tech materials (no cotton socks here!) and these will make their way into my rotation.

If you’d like to check out a pair of Thirty 48 socks or compression sleeves, you can find them on their website here, in some retail locations throughout the US, as well as on Amazon.

Fine print: Thirty 48 provided me with two pair of socks to review at no cost to me or Shrinking Jeans. As always, the opinions are all my own.
